The whiteboard marker trick works because of the solvent in the markers dissolves the ink so you can wipe it up.

The OR-15 is still a classic rock type amp. If you want gain maybe have a look at the Dark Terror or the Jim Root Terror thing. I have a TH30 and really like it, clean channel is really nice (and loud) and the gain goes from crunchy to very very fuzzy. Maybe bigger than you want but it does scale ...

The Adkins basically is a LP- same bridge, set neck?, scale length, controls, P90s etc. I've seen loads of them for sale second hand, either there are loads of them or the owners don't fancy keeping them. All valued around £350.

Could the neck just be out of alignment? Stick a capo on a fret, slacken the strings right down and unscrew the neck and have a look in the the pocket. Get it back together and see how it is.
