I have never played any of the Thunder series, so can't comment first hand but if I were to get a 30 watt Orange then the TH30 would be it. it is definitely more modern sounding than the AD series.

I agree, change the pots to lower value. I have a JB Jr in the bridge of my Jag and you really need to lower the pot value to go with it.

Will switching the pots out effectivley give me the effect of turning the tone knob down? I've never been keen on the tone control on the Jag, it seems to just ...

It's partly to do with the 1meg pots in there which you could swap for a lower value for less shrillness. It's also largely to do with the bridge style which gives very little resonance or sustain compared to say, your PRS.

I don't think you'll see any more change by swapping pickups again.
