I just got used '65 RI and I'm underwhelmed with the stock pickups. They sound thin to me and don't handle distortion well.

Do you have a link to those metal tuners?

Superglue worked.

Tonight I used superglue. I will try it tomorrow after it dries. What a pain.

My used '65 RI arrived yesterday. I'm so glad I pulled the trigger on it.

It's a pretty, pretty guitar.

I haven't really been able to play it tuned yet because one plastic tuning key falls off. I tried a general purpose "Liquid Nails" glue but it didn't hold. Any ideas on how to fix this?

My question about the neck was about what shape/width it is in the 2004-5 model years. I know the earlier years had a "B" neck which is too thin for me. But I think the 2004-5 necks were thicker "C" style necks?

Does any know what the necks are like on the 2004-5? Thanks!

I've got a chance to buy a Mustang RI with hard case for $450, shipped. I have not played it, it would be shipped from a nearby state.

It looks to be a '65 model. It is a stock CIJ. Serial is R073284, which I think makes it a 2004-2005 model ...

How would you compare the VM neck vs a recent '65 RI neck? I'm thinking I might splurge on the fender, but am worried the neck might be too old school style...thin and narrow.

Which do think is the better value, a new $300 Squier VM or a decent used $500 Fender Mustang RI?

BTW, everyone probably knows this...but there is a gigantic 120+ page thread over at OSG on the new VM Squiers. Even that thread only has a few mentions how the Mustang plays.

I think the Mustang is in short supply compared to the Jag and Jazzmaster.
