The weight would worry me a bit too, but those kit builds probably don't use the same wood for the bodies as branded guitars. I doubt that it would be the same sort of mahogany as a Gibson or an Epi.
The kit-built JM I bought second-hand for instance is noticeably lighter than my CIJ, despite the ...

NPD: Boss OS-2
Cheers Noirie. ((thumup)
Much to my surprise, it ain't bad. I recall an old thread where Mike explained how elegant and clever the circuit is, and the end result is pretty usable. Neither of the two modes are anything out of the ordinary, but the range of tweakability makes up for that.

Interesting indeed. The values of the caps and resistors they were using back then were so variable that the "Triangle sound" in this case could be any one of several batches, so I wonder what they're basing it on. It would be amusing, but somewhat understandable, if they turned to the BYOC Large ...

If you're buying the trem as one unit where all the parts are supplied in the bag/box, it doesn't make a lot of difference really. The issue for a newcomer is whether you want the hassle of setting up and maintaining it - they're notoriously tricky in terms of tuning stability. I couldn't get on ...

I'll probably pick up an SD-1 when I see one second-hand, out of curiosity's sake more than anything else. That's how I ended up with a DS-1 which, while it's not a permanent fixture on my board, can sound pretty good if you tweak it right. It certainly doesn't deserve the derision that the *amber ...

I quite like mine, but don't use it as often as I thought I would. There are three issues I have with it: the string vibration and resulting volume is higher than what you get from picking normally, it does the "octave up" thing that Benecol mentioned (the newer ones have a "standard" and "octave up ...

Seeking recs for a MIAB OD
I've never been a big fan of amp distortion, so get most of my dirt from pedals. Multi-channel amps always seem like too much of a compromise: one channel might work well for me while the other doesn't.

I'm not familiar with Fender's twitter account, but reading it again: it sounds as much like "to mark our product's 60th anniversary year, here's an example of someone famous using it" as it does a teaser of a planned product.
That said, I also agree that 1. a Squier version, much like the J Mascis ...

The new bridge fits okay. I utilised the retaining screw's hole for the middle of the three rear screws, so it's a couple of mm further back than I would've liked. The saddle screws press against the strings on this type of top ...

I've ordered some Gotoh tuners, and will hopefully be able to tweak the alignment of the e. Now I see it, I can't unsee it. They're the same as the old ones, except they're nickel rather than black. I hope they're the same as the ones on my CIJ JM, because I really like those.

I'm not sure who the target market is specifically, because aesthetically it looks like Spinal Tap chose the colour scheme while sounds-wise it's not a metalhead's guitar at all. As an instrument I'd say it caters to fans of Robert Smith, Thought Forms and perhaps stoner rock with some nice muff ...
