or you know, play what you buy before you do or buy it from someone who you trust enough to believe them when they tell you it's decent.
so the real message is: BUY EVEYTHING FROM THE CLASSIFIEDS AND BE HAPPY.
seriously, all of my current electrics came from the classifieds and i couldn't be happier with 'em.

You know, I was kind of thinking this the whole time. Yeah, quality control will never be perfect, but if you play before you buy, then that solves the problem right there.Reece wrote:or you know, play what you buy before you do or buy it from someone who you trust enough to believe them when they tell you it's decent.

Or you can usual make no nonsense returns and exchanges if it's not to your standards.

Gibsons are great playing guitars, just bought a Gibson Firebird V and the body through neck is a dream to play every time I pick it up it's in tune.... that said I don't think Fenders play as well, every Fender I have ever played felt like it was playing against me, like the next note was a challenge. However, if they are set-up properly they play great but they have to be set-up constantly and by someone who has some pride in their work. I once had a Japanese Fender Telecaster setup by a pro who spent an hour on it making sutre it played great and that the intonation was perfect up and down the neck. I played it for month until it had worked itself out of intonation.
Fender also have a very distinct sound, they sound great on rhythm, are very versatile, and easily customisable.
The real rip off are Rickenbackers! Depending on the stock available at any given time a Rickenbacker 330 can cost anywhere from €1000 to €1700! Last fall on Dolphin Music's site a Rickenbacker 330 was £1000... now it's £1500, fuck's sake.
