On the subject of pickups what would be the easiest to fit, a standard P90 or a Dogear, also do Dogears have that growling tone of a regular P90.

Dogears require higher action as they are surface mounted but are the easiest to fit. Dogears are the original P90, Soapbars are technically a different pickup and most models are classed as P100- higher gain.
The 'Growling tone' depends a lot on the body, LP Juniors were solid slab mahogany, set neck, minimum routes with a wrapover bridge. You may achieve some of that tone if you fit one.

Nah, they're the same pickups under a different housing: on dogears, the screws are at either end of the pickup, on soapbars, the screws go through the pickup. Both are P90s, though.

P100's are stacked coils, so hum cancelling but, and this is important, shite. A lot of cheaper P90 guitars (for instance, Vintage) use P100s. I have no idea why.

I'll dig out an article written by a LP Junior collector that states the differences... if i can find it. It may be down to something like pole piece length, either way, enthusiasts point out a huge difference in sound.

I'd be really interested to read this, actually: I know all the Duncan P90's come in either dogear or soapbar format, with the innards the same, but suppose I shouldn't base everything on that. At work I've got a link to a huge exhaustive Jr and Special shootout that they did in the US a few years back. It was nearly won by a Tokai, which upset a lot of the good ol' boys. I still miss my Edwards Jr (I had it when I joined shortscale all those years ago) but it gave it's life so I could buy my Jazzmaster.

I wouldn't be so sure about that Ends my old love. Just being polite because Fran is older, wiser and infinitely harder than I am.

Ok, here's the thing, i have been playing this guitar all night and i've got say that comfort and feel wise it is simply awesome, the more i play it the more i like it, but there is a problem, the more i play it the more i realize i don't like the pickup that's in it, if i were to fit a P-90 it would have to be the PRS SE One P-90 but sadly these seem impossible to come across, i do have an Angus Young Sig Humbucker that i took out of an SG before i sold it, i'm tempted to use this just because i have it sitting there doing nothing but i'm a little unsure, what do you guys reckon.

Mess with the tone control a bit before you give up on the pickup that's on there.

What's the dealie-o with the Gibraltar III bridge? I can't see from looking at it what it does?

Yeah thats an idea, if worst come to the worst what do think about the Angus Humbucker, BTW if anyone has ever thought of buying the Angus Hum don't bother it's a bit of a con, awesome pickup but i read an interview with Angus's tech guy and he reckons he uses stock SG Standard pickups, so how can Gibson sell a sig pickup over a regular SG standard pickup,....Thanks Gibson.

It just has the same adjustments as a regular Tune-O-Matic only it looks fancier. It won't drop off with the strings removed either.

Seriously, i'll try to dig that article out, its in a Guitar Mag with a spread on Johnny Thunders and stuff. You could be right though, maybe its some mojo waffle from some dude that loves his 57 Juniors.

Goddammit. What are we doing? Why dont we own Juniors anymore?

Had a trawl around, and the differences would seem to be in the baseplate, and how the nature of the physical connection effects the sound.
