what is a bass V worth? i find the weird body design and odd headstock appealing...

if i played right i would give you 100eur for it

So few were made that they're probably only going to exchange hands for quite a lot of money. I don't think they'd be worth that much, though. It'd be much better value to buy something else.

thats what i tuned the white one too when i was playing it.


the reason it played like shit was because the strings on it were probably 40 years old. the thing would go out of tune 4 seconds after you started playing it.


the thing i like about it is that it only has 15 frets.

It's kind of amusing that Leo Fender was brilliant enough to invent the 5 and 6 string electric bass guitars, yet somehow thought that bassists wanted extra higher notes instead of lower ones. Actually, the Bass V is weird in that you get an extra string, but because it has only 15 frets you don't get any notes higher than a standard 20 fret 4 string. I'm not really sure what the point is in having a high C string in that case. The Bass VI seems like a much more practical instrument.

Is the Bass V a 34" scale? If so, I would imagine that it would only need a new nut in order to use a BEADG tuning. If I had the skills, I would try and build a copy from scratch myself (I certainly don't have the skills!) and use a low B string. One of these days I'll build a Bass VI from USACG parts (if I ever finish all my other projects first!)

The white one rob is holding in that picture didn't play well at all. The neck is an awkward shape because of the extra width and the overall balance feels odd because of the long body. A lot of it is it just being different relative to what is the norm, but the only reason I can see for it being coveted is that it's rare.

I'd muchhhhhhh rather have a customized 5 string Mustang bass, and not the shitty 4+1 tuner arrangement, 5 in line.
