Just got home with it. Some of you might remember my acoustic thread from a few months back....I had pretty much settled on a Martin DSR but then we had a shit ton of vet bills and car repairs come up and I had to put that idea on hold. Then I found this thing and fell in love with it. 1972 Guild G-37 BLD. Spruce top, maple back and sides. Came with original hardshell case, just as beat up as the guitar. Yes it has screw holes where a soundhole pickup used to be. Yes it has been fitted with an undersaddle pickup and a crappy fender preamp. Yes there's random holes in the side where a strap button might've been? Do I care? Not at all! On the plus side it has a bone nut (mojo arrows) and the previous owner installed some brand new Grover waiverly style tuners. BONUS!

I haven't been into doing demos lately...chances are I'll use it on a comp song or somewhere on the next relics album.

Recorded with a canon digital point and shoot camera so I don't know how accurate the quality is. I apologize for the sloppy playing, it's late.

It sounds really lively. I dig it a lot. I've got a Martin that's pretty beat to hell, too. It's not that old, though.

I really know very little about acoustics. I mean I understand the basic concepts behind rosewood vs mahogany spruce vs cedar etc but really when it comes down to it once I start comparing guitars in shops they all start sounding so much the same that I don't know what I think is good anymore. I only really wanted a real comfortable guitar that I can pick up and strum but sounds good enough to record with on an album and not have regrets about which guitar I chose. I think this fits the bill quite well. Not quite AS deep as what I think of in a martin but it has as much bottom end as I'll ever need.

It does smell a bit though....can't find any mildew IN the guitar or case, but it has that musty cellar smell. Trying to air it out with dryer sheets....any other recommendations would be appreciated

Yeah, I hear you there. I had my teacher at the time help me pick out the acoustic I wanted until I really started getting a grasp for it. I feel pretty good about shopping for them myself now, but I've got all the acoustics I could ever need.

My Martin's a smaller model, though, not a dreadnought. The wood on the top's stripping, it's missing part of it's finish, but it's a real player's guitar. The player that owned it before me was big into country, so it's kind of thin as far as acoustics go, both in tone and size. I enjoy it a bunch.

The smells is one of the best things about acoustics! I hope the smell never goes away from mine.

Nice job. They are first rate. I put empty coffee bags in that Epi I had. Never did quite get the cigarette smell out. I didn't try that spray from Walgreens. Next time.
