At first I was like "who the fuck is joe trohman?" Then I googled him, and found out he's the guy from fall out boy (broken up) and has now started a metal band that nobody except for die hard fall out boy fans has probably heard of, and then I was like "Why does he have a signature guitar?"

The $20 more and you get a fender arguement is pretty dumb though, I thought we were all past the name on the headstock snobbery here.

Let's say it this way. I feel like it's a unique enough instrument that at $279-299 (Deryck Whibley, Avril, etc.), it'd be a good buy. At $379, it just isn't worth having "Squier" and "Joe Trohman" on your headstock.

I agree about the Joe Trohman name thing completely, but I'm not particularly a fan of his, maybe he has fans out there that feel differently.

But as far as the price for a Squier name on the headstock arguement I just think it's absolutely stupid to think like that. The Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster is the same price and it's getting great reviews, and I would absolutely not mind paying that much for a Squier especially with the quality level of their more expensive guitars. And I'm also sure that there are people who have no idea who J Mascis is or aren't fans of his that like the guitar enough to buy it. Saying "It's too expensive to have a squier decal on the headstock" is just snobbery.

i don't think it's a snobbery aspect that honey is talking from. i believe he's inferring the price range that this falls into, (in comparison to fender) but the one problem is that you can't spend $20 more and get a fender guitar with exactly the same features.

I've bought so many Squiers in my life that I've lost count. I love Squier instruments, and my favorite guitars that I never sell are all Squiers. But there's something to be said about a Squier, that first of all, they should be cheap. There are some exceptions, like Vista series, I suppose. But new? At the $379-399 range, unless it's something that really has no Fender rival like the Mascis Jazzmaster (which you have to pay twice as much for to get anything near the same), I just think that the Squier name is pretty unattractive when you start paying Fender prices because at that point, I think their value proposition is debatable to say the least.

Well, no, you're "stuck" with an HSS Tele Plus that doesn't suck:

it sucks if you're after a 3 way switch and two sets of vol/tone, and a nice rosewood neck.

or a nice 3 tone burst.

£400 Squier ≠ $400 Fender

I'd be much more willing to spend £350 on a new Squier than a new Fender. I've also owned a lot of Squiers and the quality varies enormously across the range. An affinity doesn't get close to a good Fender but a 90s MIJ or a current CV is (from what I've seen) a better guitar than a standard series Fender.

Shame this doesnt have widerangers, even if they're not as fancy as the og ones. My roommate and I were joking about putting another neck pup in the middle of his tele deluxe, but that's the type of thing i think squier could do though.

Is there a point to any of the current Fender models with "wide range pickups"? I thought they were just PAFs with oversized covers.

That is the point. The cost of making CuNiFe magnets is unreasonable, as is the mass-production of them.

And rosewood neck on a tele? So wrong, lol.

this is the exact reason why the squier vista line died a quick death. no one bought them because they were 500 bucks

Where are Fralin and Novak getting those magnetic screws? I know they're not CuNiFe but it should be possible to get magnetic screws. Without them, I view WRHB routes as all the drawbacks without any of the tonal benefits.

I prefer rosewood as well, but open minded.

Can honestly say had no idea who Trohman was before this thread. Is Fall Out Boy some emo thing? I just remember Milhouse from the Simpsons.
