Heavy Strings with a Plain 3rd

I like heavier strings, 012 and 013 or thereabouts. I also like plain thirds.

Anyone know of anyone that makes a set with a plain third? I normally have to buy a 022 - 024 or so in plain separate when I'm buying strings and I don't know why, but I'd rather not.

Or, I might just make the step up to wound thirds.

Wound 3rd is the way to go, something about a plain third just feels awkward and plinky to me.

No experience with them, but here

Yeah, the wider a plain string the shittier they feel and sound to me.

If I'm tuning down beyond C# I'll go for a wound 3rd, usually a 20 or so so it still feels thin and light.

I play a lot of bluesey type stuff so spend a lot of time bending on the 3rd or landing on it. I'm happy enough to go with a wound third, but am a wee bit concerned about it not sounding bright enough, if that makes sense.

I'm sorting out a guitar for a mate who plays 13s with plain 3rd - pretty sure he said Ernie Ball does a set....might have been didarrio. I'll need to buy them soon so this is relevant to interests.

Yes. Except that you've googled the answer instead of the question, instead of just suggesting an answer. Good work.

I am a big fan of Dunlop's "HEAVIEST CORE" strings, despite the silly name. Plain third.

012 is as light as I want to go. I'm thinking of just getting d'Addario Pure Nickel 013s with the wound third. I am coming to terms with the fact that there's a maturing process to go through whereby you start thinking humbuckers are best, then move on single coils, then realise it's P-90s. I suspect the same is true for slinky strings, on to heavy strings, on to heavy with a wound third.
