Jazzmaster/Coronado Neck Project

Started to pick up parts for my much delayed JM project.

A few years ago I spotted an interesting mongrel for sale locally, seemed to be the result of a Coronado getting smashed back in the day with the remaining parts and neck bolted onto an old Guyatone/Teisco body.
I nabbed it with the intention of building a JM around the vintage bound and blocked neck. It's mainly just sat in it's funky case since then.

I decided to be boring and go with a black body to match the black headstock. Initially thought about getting a custom pickguard and going with Jag style switching like Herb did on his aluminium necked offset, but looks like I missed the boat on Herad doing custom work (they stopped last month!). So it'll be more conventional looking. My jaguar is hardtailed at the moment with a third bridge, so figure it'll be cool to have the traditional vibrato. Fuck an mastery, the bensonite looks nice and solid.

Liked the look of this hasily refinished JM on reddit, so visually heading towards this:

This is the plan:

BloomDoom Guitars relic nitro body (black)
Black HERAD anodised aluminium pickguard
Cream, Landline Pickups - Beacons (Travis Bean style), custom "highwind" for the C//E discord.
Bensonite Bridge
AVRI Vibrato
Get some silver F-tuners to replace the gold.
EYparts JM wiring kit, might wire a strangle switch to a pull pot for some extra options.
Not sure about knob colour/style yet.

This'll be my second time wiring a guitar from scratch and the last one was a mess, so appreciate any advice re:shielding.

more likely due to the uk's new age verification / porn laws. for some websites it's not worth the hassle so they just block the uk

Imgur blocks access to UK users after regulator warned of fine
30-Sept-2025
UK users trying to access Imgur on Tuesday were met with an error message saying "content not available in your region" - with Imgur content shared on other websites also no longer showing.

The UK's data watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), said it recently notified the platform's parent company, MediaLab AI, of plans to fine Imgur after probing its approach to age checks and use of children's personal data.

The BBC has approached MediaLab AI for comment.

A help article on Imgur's US website, seen by the BBC, states that "from September 30, 2025, access to Imgur from the United Kingdom is no longer available... UK users will not be able to log in, view content, or upload images. Imgur content embedded on third-party sites will not display for UK users."

A document published by the ICO, external alongside the launch of its investigation stated that Imgur did not ask visitors to declare their age when setting up an account. It said on Tuesday it had reached initial findings in its investigation and, on 10 September, issued MediaLab with a notice of intent to impose a fine. "Our findings are provisional and the ICO will carefully consider any representations from MediaLab before taking a final decision whether to issue a monetary penalty," said Tim Capel, an interim executive director at the ICO. "We have been clear that exiting the UK does not allow an organisation to avoid responsibility for any prior infringement of data protection law, and our investigation remains ongoing."

So, status so far:

BloomDoom Guitars Jazzmaster body (black, light nitro relic) - ordered, being built.
Chrome F-tuners to replace the gold - found some s/h for sale locally
Cream, Landline Pickups - Beacons (Travis Bean style), custom "highwind" for the C//E discord - acquired

Next up in the new year:
Bensonite Bridge
AVRI Vibrato - Cheapest option probably is to just go with the NZ fender distributer vs the shipping on reverb.
JM wiring kit, might wire a strangle switch to a pull pot for some extra options.
Black HERAD anodised aluminium pickguard
Not sure about black or cream knobs yet.

Saw "high-wind bridge" before I read what it was about and thought of this:

This bridge is often closed to large vehicles in high winds. Sorry.

Dustin from DoomBloom just sent me the photos of the finished body, so this should start moving a bit quicker now!

Got a mustang style squier bridge with some spare thimbles for the body locally, heard they are deeper than the imperial US ones? Seemed easier than paying the international postage on a set of thimbles. ha.

Neck fits.

Have ordered an AVRI trem. Seemed to be sold out in most of the official fender distributors for some reason.

Decided against a black anodised guard. Thought it might end up looking slightly too tough and less vintage/classic against the rest of the body. Ordered a thick acrylic with curved/rolled edges. Sorta like the classic Gilmour black strat.

Still to acquire:
- Bridge thimbles - Squier bridge guy lost the thimbles, but should probably do it properly and get the fender US size.
- Electronics/knobs - thinking of going with a fancy prewired harness, but that might not be for a while as I might have made an impulse guitar purchase….

Okay, have now sourced all the parts.
Got some USA thimbles, plus some black screws for mounting the rhythm circuit to go along with the blacked out pickguard screws.

Ordered cream witch hats and a wiring harness from a UK reverb store. I won’t recommend/name them however since they took nearly three weeks to refund me the combined shipping on multiple items.

Also picked up a cheap Tele pickup and a push pull pot for my jaguar behind the bridge setup.

Anyway, have shielded the body and borrowed a drill from work. Nearly there!

Holes all drilled. Will probably wire up the electronics and finish up later in the week when I’m on leave.

All wired up! Just needs intonating. Will wait a bit for the neck to settle before I tweak the rest of the setup, but feels pretty good considering I just whacked it together and eyeballed the level of the bridge etc.
One thing I didn't mention was I did use a little spacer to lower the rhythm circuit switch down a bit, and the thicker pickguard makes it lower still. Also thinking about a black switch tip.

Was worried about lining up the bridge but feel like I did okay. Other than one screw hole being a little off compared to the rest.

The second ground wire on each pickup from the steel baseplates broke off, and I couldn’t be bothered pulling apart the dressed wires to resolder. But it I don't know if makes much difference, as its actually really quiet!

Tried to get a pic showing the finish checking that Justin did on the body, obviously hard to see on the black!
