Maybe it should be based on the relative size compared to the owner. All guitars are shortscale to Shaq.

Toronados are Gibson scale, as are Cyclones.

I think when we came up with the forum classifications way back when, (1) we were leaning even heavier into Fender fanboydom, and (2) the thinking was something like "anything not Strat or Tele scale goes here."

Yeah, I think the classification makes sense somehow. Toronados are somehow shortscales. Les Pauls somehow are not. SGs maybe straddle the line, somehow.

In any case, even if it is a slightly messy classification, we can shelve any firm decisions until the next time someone makes a post in one of the guitar forums in about 18 months' time.
