WHy are they so cool for youse guys? I'm honestly curious.

They're boring. Fenders, ftw. I'd take a cheap second hand JCM800 but I'd never pay for a new Marshall, they're too expensive.

I play in a gigging band, and typically use at least three different "base" sounds - Clean, Crunch and Heavy Crunch/Thick Overdrive.

I like the way Marshall amps sound when overdriven and although I have owned and played amps by many other manufacturers, nothing sounds "right" in response to my picking dynamics except Marshall overdrive.

It's a taste thing - people go mental over Fender Twins - I will never own one - an amp with several head explosions worth of clean headroom is boring and useless to me.

I see. I thougth it was the overdrive. I'd take the twin you described.

I like many different types of amps for many different types of sounds.

For instance, Mesa Boogies. I will never play enough "crushing /\/\ET/\LS!!" to need super variable circuit path selection and MEGAODISTORIODETH.

I love Fenders for jangly cleans, and lush groovy harmonics. I have an old MusicMaster Bass amp. something like 18Watts all tube, one channel, one twelve inch speaker. Thing was meant to be a student bass amp, but didn't work well with that. But as a guitar amp, it's tight.

I think Marshalls are the workhorses of the gigging musician. Sure, I could go on stage with a nice ToneMaster head with matching 4x10 cab for my cleans and biamp to a Mesa Boogie DualWrecktonefier, but that's a lot of work for a working guy.

The Marshall gives me great OD, and good cleans, it's responsive, and has a tone I like.

I also like Fender Bassmans (the 1x15 version), and I like the 4x10 hotrod deville. But for what I want to sound like most of the time (Rock) the Marshall works the best as a single amp.

Marshalls are my favorite amps of all-time.

i haven't played a marshall that i've liked yet. i think i've only played the avt and mg amps - they both suck so bad. just all high end SHIT.

actually, the only amp i played at a store and really liked was the classic 30. but i haven't played a lot of amps at stores anyway.

I loved the Green Day 'Dookie' sound a LAWT, so I got a tube Marshall and use a dirt pedal that's practically JCM800 in a box (and I know BJA didn't use a 800..).It was pretty cheap too, which is always good, and I can bias it myself which is a huge plus. Because of they're made over here, they really are pretty affordable too, another reason why.

They're not for everone, but writing them off because they're a hair metal cliché is LAMEASS. It's like saying Fenders are shit just because RHCP use them.

Maybe a part of me wanted this big, historic-looking amp setup to fulfil some rock fantasy but I really like the sound of them too. That said, I'd never NOT use a Fender, Mesa et al just because of that. I'm a sound junkie, everything is exciting to me.

That's what I thought, and then I played one. I noodled on it about 2 minutes after my stomach started to turn, just so I didn't seem like osme kind of elitist prick.

PRS make beautiful guitars, its just a lot of nobbers use them. But it was'nt always that way..

Marshall for me as well. I just love the sounds, the reliability, the looks and reasonabley priced. As for cliches, Marshall spans that many genre's over four decades i dont really associate the amp with anything in particular... just good music.

i'd go toob marshall if i'd need heavy ass solid seventies-ish distortion right from my amp instead of pedals....
but i love the cleans with lots of reverb on fenders..i'm a sucker for that,
in my opinion orange is almost like 'the middle path' between the two 'standards'...so i'd def. go orange if i had the money, it seems like the best solution for a schizophrenic guitarist

My favourite amps tend to be British. Vox, Hiwatt, Orange... but I hate Marshalls. It definitely is a stereotyping thing. I'm absolutely sick to death of seeing four marshalls stacked onstage for teenage bands. Occasionally, I might see a band who have a decent Marshall, but not often.

I have to admit that my love of Fender amps comes close to my love of other British manufacturers. You think a Marshall can be dirty? NEIL YOUNG.

I love Marshalls for the overdrive also. But I love my Fender Twin Reverb for cleans. My Peavey Triple XXX does a good job of getting that Marshall overdrive sound in the crunch channel so I use that for overdrive, but if I was in a gigging band I would probably get one of those splitters so I could use my twin for cleans and my Peavey for overdrive.
