Having scraped shell out of the binding channel of a Gretsch I do not envy anyone who uses that material to any large degree.

Funny you should say that as the only guitarists I've ever seen play these things were surely deep in blow at the time they bought them.

Diamond-encrusted Sidekick phones, Louis Vutton handbags, Zematis guitars, it's all good. Not for me, but to each their own.

No,I sent it back to place I bought it from. It was not a real "Shelltop" just a single pre-printed plastic sheet glued on the top.

I feel like I shouldn't like these but I actually really like they way they look. They should be gaudy but there's something simple and classy about them. As long as they weigh less than about 4.5kg I'd play one.

This is going to sound stupid, but I think I hate them but think I would quite like them if it wasn't shell or pearl or anything half as flash. If it were pieces of terracotta tiles or something I think I would like it. That would be a completely different sort of aesthetic, though.

I think the original ones looked and sounded fantastic, although I've only seen them played by people who were pretty great at guitar anyways. I liked them ever since I saw an old video of James Honeyman-Scott playing one in The Pretenders. Greco re-issued these in several price ranges.

This dude however seems to be the spiritual successor.
