Refinishing James’s Old Cabinet

Post by Progrockabuse »

So as mentioned in the diary thread, I’ve stripped and refinished the Torres 2x10 cabinet that I acquired from James. I traded some Jamesons whiskey for it and rewired to 16ohms. That was nearly 15 years ago at Progfest.

It’s served me well, running it with my Dual Terror until I sold it to my lead singer when I had my Newly-single gear midlife crisis.

After pretty much all my gear was sold when shit hit the fan, I brought it back from my lead singer, as i realised that some of the best guitar sounds I’ve had have been because of that cab.

It’s been paired with my Marshall Origin 20H since i got it and has been a great match.

So I stripped back to its bare parts to reveal some nice solid pine underneath. I reset and strengthened some of the internal braces and finished it in briwax. Some black corners and a good clean and it’s all done. I’ve reverted it to its original open back configuration.

I think it looks pretty good, the wife is happy that the god awful purple colour is gone 😂

Looks great, and looks like it suits your room better, which matters when it's a largish piece of furniture that your partner is indulging.

I preferred the purple, but that's mostly because I prefer daft looking things.
