Started a new project with a pal. Early days but 3 demos worth of instrumentals down. So had a shuffle of the pedals to celebrate

Double Riccochet'D up on a Thursday afternoon

Can't wait to hear the new noises, bud!

aside: for a sec I got excited about the Stomp XL ("ooh maybe I could upgrade so all my delays & mods can live in one snapshot"), but you only get 4 effect footswitches? One more than the Stomp?

6 foot switches 4 snapshots.

I looked at both stomps and went back and forth between what to get. I do think the XL is most practical. Well for me at least.

Nay unfortunately, but you have the bank up and down foot switches on the left instead. When in stomp/snapshot mode they become active for selecting FX or snapshots.

These two paired together are spectacular.

Current conversations on shortscale made me take my saltbooster out of the pedal box and stick it on my board. Torn between using it to boost into the klon or after the klon.

Because the saltbooster can cut as well as boost, I’ve been using it to stick a cranked klon into it and it almost behaves like a master volume for home use. Klons like to be loud and this is a decent compromise at home. Gets fuzz if you max the klon volume into the saltboost.

Torn between my Leslie sim and my chorus/flanger for modulation sounds.

Happy with the core pedals of klon/trem and delay, have been the constants for a while now.

Wish I had Mike build me a 2nd saltbooster whilst he was still building. I worry that if that or my other MBM pedal die I’ll not be able to get them fixed. Hence why I tend to keep them safe at home.

I think it would be cool if in the corner of one of these GPUs that I understand Mike helps to design there's a little "MBM" logo etched into the silicon.

We moved into our new temporary (???) practice space today, and I've got mixed feelings about it.

Long story short, the building where we've rehearsed for the past couple of years didn't have power for December, January and half of February. We were back in action for a month, and then in mid-March they had to close the building again due to asbestos being discovered in the ceiling. It isn't airborne so essentially fine for now, but apparently it's dangerous enough to warrant removing, and we've ended up in a situation where the landlord covering the cost is contingent on no-one using the space until the asbestos is gone. But we're still paying rent for some reason. Fun!

Whilst all this has been going on, we've been bouncing around a few commercial practice rooms as well as occasionally rehearsing in a local music venue outside of opening hours. It's workable but not ideal, especially for Thank where we've got so much fucking stuff that loading in, setting up, tearing down and loading out for a two-hour practice every week just isn't sustainable.

So we've ended up taking over this room temporarily. The load-in is a bit of a pain in the arse compared to our usual spot, but it's bigger and it has natural light. I literally don't think I've regularly rehearsed somewhere with natural light in over a decade! We aren't entirely sure how much we trust the guys running the place, and the community around our other room is a pretty big deal for us. But having spent a few hours today pottering about and trying to arrange our stuff in a sensible way, I've got to admit I don't think I'd be too upset if we ended up sacking off the other place and sticking around here indefinitely. Much to consider!

There will be four bands practicing in here, with various overlapping members. For the first time in like three years we've gotten to a point where all three drummers in those four bands are comfortable using the same kit, so admittedly the fact that there aren't two drum kits to fit in is immediately gonna make any room feel enormous.

There's potentially a few more cabs still to shift across, although I'm hoping (perhaps naively lol) that the end result might end up being that they never get shifted, and then when (if???) we move back to the old room folks might consider that we can actually get by without nine cabs, and we can get rid of some.

We’ve been rehearsing at the same place in Derby for 10-15 years. Natural light would be lovely. As we’ve been regulars there for that amount of time, they usually look after us and let us store our stuff.

I always bring my own amp and cab, mainly as I get a chance to use it in a loud environment, but if not they have some decent cabs/amp should I want to use that.

I’m 99.9% set on switching back to a combo with optional extension cab, mainly as I can be arsed to lug it all about.

The electrics have been improved so now I don’t pickup the next rooms wireless mic through my fuzz face 😂

I toy with finding a new place to rehearse, mainly as derby is about 35-40 mins from chesterfield.

It is essentially an office to be honest, haha, so not exactly the most rock and roll environment. It kind of looks like a classroom, in fact, so maybe that's what's freaking you out!

A local venue got evicted from their premises and have taken over this empty factory instead. A bunch of the back office rooms are gonna be properly treated and soundproofed eventually (one of them is apparently being sponsored by Marshall which seems quite bonkers) but in the meantime while they're focusing on doing up the venue itself they've let us move into one of the untreated rooms. It would be nice if the windows stayed, but I suspect when the room gets done up they'll be boxed in for better soundproofing.

I'm led to believe there's a waiting list of something like 40 bands for these back rooms once they're properly up and running, but I'm also led to believe that if we *do* end up deciding we want to stay permanently after all then we can supersede the waiting list.

I dunno, the more I think about it the more I'm into the idea of just sacking off our other room altogether, but also aware that I'm probably blinkered by the excitement of a NEW room. It'll be at least a month before we have to make a decision anyway.

100% this.

Simultaneous anxiety about not being able to find the beat and trying to explain to the HR person that I think they have me on the wrong tax code.

Do you reckon the community will follow you over? Or I suppose life moves on, and there's a brilliant new community to be built here?

Ha! I mean admittedly it was written before we moved here, but the one brand new song we've just added to our set is noticeably jollier than our average.

Hard to say, honestly. Obviously we had a great community centred around CHUNK from 2015 to 2020, and Covid killed that off. It took until probably mid-2023 for Damaged Goods to rebuild into something similar, but I guess that would have been quicker if not for the pandemic.

This new spot kind of already has its own community, I guess centred around metal and more kind of bro-y hardcore bands. It's just that they've moved to a bigger premises which has facilitated them growing that community. I just don't know if it's our people as such. Although interestingly it sounds like we aren't the only semi-temporary transplant from DG.

That could be cool. Or, even better, they could all end up being insufferable bellends that you get to slag off to your CHUNK/Damaged Goods pals, which is half the fun of being in a band in a scene anyway.

Extension cab arrived today.

DSL20CR and MX112R.

Hoping it will be plenty loud enough for gigging with on its own, but if not it’ll be plenty loud with the extension cab.

Or tempted to run the origin into the 1x12 and have a wet/dry or stereo rig. Just need a decent delay pedal now.
