I do actually like certain pointy guitars. but what kills me is whenever I see one it has a broken point. or cracked headstock. whatever.
anywho. this guy brought this to me with the typical damage. I told him I couldn't guarantee it would look good. I fucking suck at painting. I still hate it all these years later.
but at any rate. he was happy with the result and gave me some extra cash.
I guess the story is, he bought it used, sight unseen, drove like... 2 hours 1 way for the "deal of the century" only to find some "Ted" looking SOB holding on those Jackson "V" covered in cat hair and cigarette ash. I guess he grabbed it, threw the cash and ran back to his truck. Once he got home he started cleaning it up and realized that someone had used sharpie to repair some dings and dents, and also to try and disguise the fact that a giant fucking piece of wood was missing! so he got a hold of me and. yea, this is what i was able to do. (he and I have good working relationship)

Nice work!
I've switched back to playing my Tele recently, but until a couple of months ago I was using an Ibanez Iceman as my main guitar for about four years. Sincerely the best-sounding guitar I've owned, at least in a live context, and certainly the most reliable.

I do like certain pointy guitars like the B.C. Rich mockingbird, and the Iceman is pretty cool.
did you 86 the neck pup?
here in the Midwest these lower end and mid level Jackson's and other pointy shred machines are the latest trend in the local trailer park. and its always the same story.
"man I got a killer deal on this guitar, but its messed up!" and then "I gave this kid 50 bucks and this is a 1,000.00 dollar guitar!" (always bullshit)
me- sweet, I love a good deal. let me get your info and fill out this card. I can call or message with a quote in a day or so.
"oh, really dude? I mean. can't you just like, fill it with Bondo and then color it in with sharpie? im only working with about 40 bucks"
me- for 40 bucks I can look at it, tell you what I WOULD DO, and sell you a new set of strings.

Re: Stupid Pointy Guitars
Yeah, I got rid of the neck pickup. Partly because I never use it, partly because it made the guitar lighter (around like 2021/22 I was obsessed with making all my guitars as light as possible), and partly because the bridge pickup mount was so tall and bulky that I couldn't lower the pickup as much as I wanted/needed, so I move the (smaller) neck pickup mount to the bridge position. Also means I can use the pickup selector as a killswitch.
