AV Jazzmasters are at least twice the money better than CIJ Jazzmasters. The materials, pickups, fit and finish, sound, trem action, feel... yadda yadda, basically everything that's been gone into a thousand times before on this site and others... everything that could be better on the made in USA models is.

However, I am certain if Fender Japan were asked to make a Jazzmaster that cost Â£1299 new rather than Â£579 (GAK prices) they could make one just as good.

I have Fender Jazzmaster(in storage) neck and body(cij) with avri parts and it feels no different than my friends sunburst AVRI Jazzmaster, no difference.

The paint is bit more "poly" but the AVRI is also partly a poly finish so that's a stupid thing to nitpick about.

I don't care about Poly vs. Nitro finish just about a good finish.

Perhaps tonally it doesn't matter, but the finish on my CIJ jazzmaster was plasticy feeling and bothered me.

I had a CIJ tele and the poly finish felt better- was thinner I'd guess.

With regards to necks, the edges are smoother on the AVRI and the fretboard edges are rolled better (is this the right term? They slope-off more comfortably.)

The thing I really used to like about AVRI Fenders is that they use darker rosewood but it seems they don't even do this anymore because I saw some recently and they had a very porous grain and lots of reddish brown streaks. I don't know if they did anything on the AVRI but all the ones I played like 5 years ago usually had very slick and dark fretboard with a tight grain.
