I am faced with a problem. I am seriously considering selling my PRS McCarty standard. This was my first electric guitar. I bought right after college along with my Marshall amp and was still a noob when it came to electric guitars. I was never a Gibson guy, but I loved the quality and craftsmanship of the PRS.
It's a fabulous instrument and I loved it because I am really into Cream and it sounds phenomenal. The problem is it sits on the wall the majority of the time while my much cheaper Jagmaster and Duo Sonic occupy my time. I keep telling myself to keep it because 1) its a PRS and 2) I might eventually need a heavier rock guitar to balance out my thinner Fender style guitars. I have tried different tunings ( flat and drop D) but it never seems to find a regular spot in my rotation.
I am not afraid to sell it because it was expensive. I think I am afraid to sell it because I am afraid I will have seller's remorse later on.
I don't like to keep a guitar if it's not being used, especially if I have other things I need/want. If I sold it, I could probably afford 2 shortscales ( CP Jaguar, Mustang or SuperSonic) if I also sold the Duo Sonic as well.
What do you guys thinks? I know this biased crowd I am asking this question to. I usually don't have problems getting rid of gear, but this one is tough for some reason.
if its not getting played, then its not getting played and its better off in someone elses hands who will play it, and the meantime you can use that cash for whatever you want.

If I sell it, I would like $1200 for it. Most of your used McCartys with maple tops go for about $1500.
The McCarty standard is basically a McCarty without a maple top.
If you're not in need of the cash, is there anything that $1200 will buy you that will bring you more enjoyment? You could pick up a nice vintage Mustang, Duo-sonic or Musicmaster for that price. You could get an AV Jag or Jazzy, maybe one of the new thin skins. I'm only suggesting those because you say it's the Fender styles that are getting played.
If you want to get two guitars with the money, I'd make sure to get one great one for maybe $700-800 and then get one 'fun' one that's still decent quality like the Squier duo you have there. You could pick up something fantastic from the mid 80s Japanese stuff and have a Gibson style guitar in your collection. A Greco LP custom or one of those Yamaha SGxxx models. The Ibanez flying V (Rocket Roll I think it's called) looks like it'd play fantastically and you could probably pick one of those up with plenty of change.

If I decide to sell the PRS, I am for sure going to get a Jaguar Classic Player. I am still trying to decide between the CP HH and the reg CP Jaguar. I am fascinated by the rolling coil taps on the HH model. I even thought of trying to get both Jaguar CP Models, but I am not sure on that. I might be more inclined to get the Jaguar Classic Player HH since I am selling my humbucker guitar.
I would probably then go for a Mustang, probably a reissue or vintage if possible. I might even sell my Squier Duo Sonic if it meant getting a real Mustang.
I also want to get a pedaltrain pro and voodoo labs pedal power 2, but If I can get 2 good guitars I will. There are some great deals on CP Jaguars right now.
I will decide soon. My PRS is cool and it deserves a good home if I am not going to play it.
I personally wouldn't sell it, largely because I would have remorse from selling my first guitar - I still have mine though it rarely gets played (Les Paul copy).
If you think that you won't regret it too much and will enjoy what you get from the proceeds, then go for it.
make sure that you play any possible replacements before you sell it (if you sell it), you don't want to be sat here in 3 months wishing you'd spent a bit more time choosing.
Personally I have yet to experience sellers remorse. Things I don't use and I sell are out of my mind the minute I sell them. On occasion I have had second thoughts while packing a guitar for shipping, but once I dropped it off it was "out of sight, out of mind"... If you begin jonesing for a McCarthy you'll always be able to find a second hand one...

Jaguar - Baja Tele Option +

if you're going hh jag, consider the hh jag special, the all black w/ chrome pickups job. awesome tones, lots of upgrade options, and not bad on the pricing. only thing is if you're a trem user, that might not be an option for you.

I have played the Japanese HH Black and its not for me. The Fender Dragster pickups are not a tone I like. I put some dragsters in my old Sunburst Jagmaster and I ended up selling because I was not into them. They are quality, but I will stick with the Classic Player HH.
