Catalinbread DLS vs Fulltone OCD

Both seem pretty popular here and amongst other gear heads...

Which one would you prefer to rock & why ??

Now I have the OCD I'm contemplating the DLS... how would you compare them ? Marshall in box, which box would they be ?

Mike should weigh in on this one. He built his own version of the DLS and probably knows the OCD as well

They're both very different but equally great pedals.

The DLS can do an extremely close imitation to both a dirty Plexi and a JCM800, it sounds very similar to my 2204 High Input Channel in Rawk mode. It is a great design, and has that low end chunk you get from a 4x12" cabinet or similar, and a lovely note decay which is completely natural.

The OCD is gainier and more compressed, it doesn't excel in the low-gain sounds the way the DLS does, but it has it's own character. At high settings it is very saturated and depending on your setup, can be a bit flubby in the bass.

They both do a different job and sound good doing it. I have the two built into a 2-in-1 pedal and it's great to be able to kick them in separately or together.

Wish you hadn't mentioned the jcm 800 / plexi reference... that's kinda what I'm gunning for.

I'm really taken by the 1974x Marshall at my work... it's kinda how I would imagine the DLS to sound when both are equally cranked.

Last thing I need / really want is another god damn overdrive pedal.

I do both, cascading the two sounds fantastic. The DLS runs after the OCD, and it stacks amazingly well with everything i've put through it. The OCD on full or a boost setting, a SunFace, treble boosters, you name it and the DLS loves it.

The DLS is by far the better medium gain pedal of the two and the OCD sounds great for higher gains with a lot of presence/treble.

mainly hotrod's idea to get the mid-west shortscalers together for said party. No date yet. Likley early-ish next year.

Love all my MBM pedals. Box of rock, hotcake, box of cake, klon, sunface, ocd/dls. All have been great pedals.

Back on topic, I think you ould love the dirty little secret with your ocd and other pedals. It'll make that peavey(?) sound faaantastic

I don't know if this will make sense as I'm sure I can't explain my thoughts clearly, but I've got a DLS (MBM) and I've had Marshalls out the wazoo to draw from tone wise (Mult. JCM800 2204's, 4104, 1987x, JTM45, JMP 50w, and DSL50).

The DLS does what I expected my Marshall to do but always fell short in some way. It's got low end, crunch, bite, and a sweep of useable tones from light overdrive to mild crunch to driven to full tilt trouser flapping goodness.

It does all this through my Princeton. I can't wait to record this setup because it sounds huge, so I'd say get yourself a DLS. If you're at all searching for Marshall'esqe sounds this guy will "do work".

I've never had an OCD so I cannot compare, but only comment on how the DLS gets good Marshall'y tones.

+1 Again, not had an OCD, but the DLS is my favourite dirt box ever without question. It is great stacked with something else. I run (either individually or combination of) Zvex SHO, Saltbooster and MBM Crunch Box into it.

Forgot about how awesome it stacks. Haven't tried my Rangemaster or Saltbooster yet but I have used a Fuzz face in front of the DLS and it's freakly cool

I had a play with the 'midfield general' pedal at doogfest. And preffered the OCD over the DLS.
Didn't really like the DLS because imo it took a little while to setup how i liked, whereas the OCD was already there.

i'm hoping sometime apr/may, maybe even summer time. i'd like my folks pool to be open so's we can partay.

we're supposed to be getting married at some point next year, so depending on how the rabbit fur handles the stress of that will dictate when carl gets to have funs.

once i figure out when will be a best time, we'll work a date out/start a thread.
