Bilinda's Mustang [complete, video pg 6]

already has contours ^^^

Got the neck today. It looks and feels great! It has a couple nicks and a tad of fretwear, but nothing that will impact playability. The 70s poly has mellowed into a nice amber color that looks pretty similar to the tint on my AVRI JM.

Time will only tell if it plays great, but based on how it feels now I think it will. The rosewood in particular seems very nice, darker than what you typically see on production-grade guitars.

Completely off-topic, but while I was taking these pics my girlfriend's cat kept trying to walk on the keyboard. So I snapped a pointless bonus shot of her. (Also uploaded pics of one of her kittens from awhile ago for you cat fans out there, lol. She has since been spayed and was preggers when we first got her.)

I sort of "adopted" a pregnant cat as well when my girlfriend moved into a new house. Previous owners left their cat, its on its 3rd litter since she has been there.
Its fun and kittens are cute but man it can be a pain!

I like that a lot. Lately I have wanted to put the Jag trem on everything since I saw one on Jimmy Page's Baritone Telecaster. I am about to convert my Jagmaster to a Jazzmaster, so I love the trems. Can't wait to see your guitar when it's done. A Mustang is a great guitar to add the trem to since it already has the proper bridge.

Yeah, I think the Jag/Jazz trem is just pretty much the best trem available. Smooth, stable, and easy to set up (minus maybe the bridge aspect, but there are easy fixes for that).

dots made me a mod recently and pretty much all I use it for is editing out quoted pictures like in the post above.

You may jest but I briefly met james and we were having a detailed discussion on the finer points of Japanese shortscales of the 1950's when this greasy biker dude walked by and James shivved him in the eyeball like he was buttering bread.

You could honestly call this a Jag-stang II. Jaguar neck and tremolo on a mustang. Instead of morphing to two bodys, just morph the parts.

After seeing this mustang with the Jag tremolo, has anyone ever tried to put a Mustang Tremolo on a Jaguar? I have never seen one, but the idea is intriguing.

The idea is a downgrade

Seriously, the Mustang trem is inferior to the Jag trem in terms of stability, and is inferior to the Strat trem in terms of sustain. It is an antiquated design meant to consolidate the trem in a cheaper, more compact unit, and its flaws outweigh its charms in my opinion.

I tend to find that most people that even buy Mustangs hardly ever use the trem, and with good reason -- it either isn't subtle enough, or it tends to knock strings out of pitch. The feel isn't right for 'glider guitar' either, if you were ever intending on using it for that. I will admit that it imparts a sort of interesting transient on the string decay of the Mustang.

As with anything, there are exceptions, but I owned a Mustang for long enough to appreciate the 'upgrade' to the Jag vibrato.

I can glide on my mustang trem just fine now, but its such a pain in the ass to setup. Stretching out the strings properly (0.11s) and getting just enough winds on the peg is crucial. That being said, it is still the inferior trem.

Minor update:

Main thing that is delaying this project now is the weather. It's currently snowing like crazy in Pittsburgh, and probably won't be decent enough to prime and paint for some time.

You can see that, at least for now, I'll be going with a surf blue color. Also, there was quite a bit of grain filling I had to do. Might do another round of that and sanding before I prime it.

i hate the snow. its supposed to snow all weekend, AND its preventing all of us from seeing the end result of this awsome project!
