choosing a telecaster

I've never played any Japanese Teles apart from my Aerodyne. To be honest, I don't really know Teles particularly well, except to say that I know what they ought to sound like, and I know that the Baja is an excellent guitar for the money and is about as excellent an approximation of 'teleness' as you can get in a guitar.

As an Aerodyne Tele owner, I can highly recommend it. It has a great feel and the neck soapbar is an incredible sounding pickup. the vintage wound bridge pickup is classic tele, and the two together can get some serious rock. The only real flaw with them is the selector switch... which can be easily replaced.

Thanks for the help. I doubt he will buy a squier. I it was me i would buy the baja, and i will probably buy one in the future, i really liked that guitar.

jeez, I've got major tele GAS at the moment and this isn't helping. I did play a CV50 last weekend and prefered the Squire VM thinline and the CV duo sonic I also tried. I still haven't found a shop in the SW UK that has a CV custom or Mahogony thinline so I might have to head east at some point soon. But given all the Baja love, I'm getting all confused now

See that's the thing, there are thinlines and customs and deluxes and all sorts, and they're all quite different sounds.

However, for just straight, normal, fifties style tele, the Baja is great.

i was watching a pgs demo of some custom shop tele and i was sure the pickup names sounded familiar.

that's fucking awesome considering it's cost.

Yeah; the Twisted Tele in particular is fantastic.

There's some dispute as to whether they're actually made at the Custom Shop, as opposed to being made in the Mexican factory. Probably matters to the people over at the TDPRI, but the pickups sound fantastic in my Baja, nonetheless.

those two pickups in position 4 (neck/bridge in series) will make sure you never miss humbuckers. thick and warm and does that nice wooly fuzz sound with the tone rolled down.
