i don't use the tone knob on any of my gutiars. half of them i have taken them completely off and replaced them with dedicated volume knobs for each pickup
I hadn't realised how the 'No Load' tone control functions, so for a while had it maxed out and too shrill. Comes in very handy now I've put a Mean 90 in the neck, though.
I think it looks a bit off to have a stupidly long metal plate to mount one pot and one switch to, they should've had the plate end where the bridge cover does and move the controls closer to the player's reach. Also I'd convert it to a tone knob.

3-way blade switches are more flexible because of the blade contact design; you can balance the switch between two contacts and get them both... this is how the 5-way switch on Strats came about, people were balancing the pre-CBS 3-way switches to get the hum-cancelling clucky sounds long before it was a stock wiring option.
Neither switch is without fault. 3-way toggles are easier to switch on the fly... both on purpose and accidently.

hmm, I feel like toggles are kind of sloppy and and never really stay in place very well. the tele 3-way switch is way solid. and it's a lot more versatile from a wiring perspective.
Fair enough, yh you can do more with a blade style, I've just used toggle switches for so long I'm just used to them. I use both pickups on most the time anyway so the switch feels pretty secure like that.
