Fender Japan has Compstang bass reissues!!!

I bet they'll be on the bay soon from Japanese sellers. It will probably be like $100 to ship but if you think it's worth it won't be impossible to get.

Yea I wouldn't pay the cost of the shipping from japan for it... not quite worth that. But if they actually sold these in the us, and for the same price as the RI stang basses we have here now, I would definitely be tempted.

Not so hot about necessarily having comp stripes on a Mustang Bass, but the unintentional almost-matching-headstock on Tangerine is a nice bonus.

Meh. Hate the comp stripes. I don't think Mustangs need them . Think Fender should focus on a more nicer bass bridge than stripes. Not saying the bass bridges suck or anything . More of a functional upgrade .

Before I read this thread I thought it was one that got dug up from a couple years ago. i've got 2 of these reissues, one in OTM and second in OCR.

It's a string through with individual height and intonation adjustments for each string, pretty functional to me. What more does it need?
Besides, it's a reissue. You don't reissue something, then make a bunch of changes to it.

I was just thinking a heavier bridge with meatier saddles . I know it's a string-through. I own a reissue . I tend to think if you're gonna reissue you should throw in some little modern touches . But I know where you're coming from.

No offense to anyone with a contrary POV, but I just don't like basswood for guitar bodies - and the vast majority of the MIJ for the Japanese market 'stangs seem to use that as the body wood, while the stuff that IS available in the USA uses poplar or alder...

They may look cool, but as with the '69 RI, I would pass due to the body wood. YMMV.

ask anyone who works with wood for a living, basswood is an almost identical wood to poplar. the only practical difference is poplar has a greenish color.
