HLYSHT I got my dream guitar- 69 Maverick

I've always wanted a Maverick(as shown in a lot of the old "Your Dream Guitar" or "Your Signature guitar" threads on here). I bid on this guitar on ebay and won it in January, but the reserve was not met. I tried to negotiate a deal for it outside of ebay at the time but it didn't work out. I forgot about it and bought a really nice 66 Jaguar instead. A couple months passed and it resurfaced so I sold my Jag to a friend of mine and bought it. It has a body only refinish in IBM and the screws for the D string tuner have been replaced. The refinish isn't great so I may refinish it later.

Congrats! Certainly awesome in a wtf way; I don't think I'd have one myself but if I saw a band using one I'd think it was cool.

so were these made from unused Bass VI bodies like the swingers?

Mavericks were made from leftover Electric XII parts. The bodies were hacked Electric XII bodies. Electric XIIs were strintg through so the route was filled. Mavericks only came in sunburst but that is why their backs are black. The early Maverick necks were Electric XII necks that had the headstocks cut, shortened and veneered. Later on Fender actually made necks specific for this model. Mine is one of the later ones.

All i see is a hacked XII. Pure Fender laziness, they had a bunch of left over parts so they just threw them together to sell. They're cool looking but i don't think i'd have at one. The Veneered headstock, the filled bridge cavity, the hacked body....

i dig it. but i think if i had a custom made guitar, i'd reverse the postions of the pickups. i wanna take some of the twang out of the g-b-e strings. especially the g.

I see it a little differently. I've owned a few hacked guitars...some vintage that had already been modded, some not as vintage that I've hacked myself. Not too many people here shun the idea of project guitars, hell for some this whole website is a resource for custom projects. That said I think owning a rare vintage guitar that was "professionally" hacked right from the factory is actually pretty awesome, as long as it's a good solid guitar.

That's what I'll probably end up doing but I'm also really tempted to paint it Sherwood Green.

Not all of them have the cut and veneered headstocks. Mine has a neck made specifically for the Maverick. They're definitely hack jobs but I'm not sure I agree with people calling them thrown together because the only odd part on them is the Mustang trem. Everything else is from the same model.

I can definitely understand people not liking them, they're not for everyone. I just happen to love old oddball guitars.
