Been needing a bass for a while now, and after a deal fell through with serfx for a bronco I started keeping an eye out. Stars lined up, I had a few extra bucks in my paypal and Rondo got these in, which caught my eye... http://www.rondomusic.com/ursa3jrmnvwh.html

So now there's one on it's way to me. Interested in the P/J combo, I hear that combo can have a real aggressive attack. I'll let ya'll know how it works out once it's here.

I've played it a handful of times but it's got girl strings on it for Nicole to learn how to play, so I keep mashing them all over the fretboard. I like it alot (the pickups are actually pretty nice I think) and once nicole can put chords together and wants to upgrade I'm definitely putting some manlands on there and ganking it from her.

She wants a different PG, I like the black though. Then again... I like green pearl so go figure.

I agree, but I'm curious why you think so? It doesn't have the usual uggo factor I go for.

it's totally asking for green sparkle paint finish to go with the black guard.

you wanted a shortscale p-bass, and have no aversion to maple. the jazz bridge pup is icing on your cake.

That looks like a cool bass. I'm personally much more used to a 30" scale neck and I love it. The 34" scale neck on my acoustic bass is so annoying.

Got it.

Preliminary is I love it. It's about as light as my M-80 but has neck dive like a summa bitch. Body is tiiiiiiiny. Neck very glossy and very comfortable, clearly the neck is the majority of the draw on these as they very clearly tended to it to make sure it was as playable as possible. Fit and finish is pretty ace. Frets are smoothed and paint looks good. Components are a bit shit. pickguard is thin and a tad wobbly, tuners are shite and very unspecific in adjustment). Bridge is meh, would like a heavier bridge on there at some point. No scratchy pots though and pickups while not stunning are more than tolerable. Not a ton of buzz, but then again both pickups are a tad limp wristed until put through distortion.

Where this shines I think, and I'm no bass player, is the tonal variety. Just on the P I get that classic standard punchy P sound for grooving behind the guitar. Just on the J I get an almost guitar like clanky sound (sorta baritoney), which is fun if I'm using the bass more as a primary instrument in the track. But the combine PJ sound... oh my... thats what I was going for. Without any distortion on it, it sounds a bit like I'm playing slap even though I'm not. you get the clanky pop when i hit the string with a hellish rumble behind it. Really fucking mean sounding with distortion on it, very very classic AmRep/Touch and Go Noise rockey. I can't image with hotter/warmer sounding pickups, it's probably pretty immense. Don't have a bass amp to run it through yet, so this is all through my Blackheart HD15. Which is admittedly naturally BRIGHT, so I'm not getting the full roundness of the bass tones for sure.

End result is very much worth the 100ish bucks. Oh, and the orangey vintage tint of the neck looks fucking classy as hell. Good enough to help me forget that god awful headstock.

Plays very much like a guitar, which is good since I don't know how to play bass. Then again, I don't know how to play guitar either.

Just fucking jammed on it for about an hour and I have a giant fucking blister on my forefinger of my fretting hand. Ouch.

Oh and don't know anything about bass strings, but the strings it came with seem decent enough. Good tension even on the short scale neck and hold tune well enough once I get it dialed in on the sloppy ass tuners.

as far as tuners go, base tuning keys are easier to tap into place rather than crank
