I walked in Oxfam before going for a full English breakfast and a couple of pints yesterday and saw a dusty 3 stringed Encore Strat that matched my P-Bass (which is remarkably heavy and well built) and was genuinely surprised when I was told they wanted £3.99. How could I resist...





So after a couple of pints I sat in my mates and opened and cleaned it all up, was glad to find a swimming pool route so I can put a humbucker in it if I wimp out of owning a guitar with single coils. The stock pickups are ok, pots all need a good clean, new nut, and a whammy bar, and I don't have a pack of strings in the house and am still on cruches at the minute.





Testing with one string, I snapped two of the ones it had on it getting them off, it looked like it'd been in an attic for years.
Zoom 505 for fuzz tones hahaha....

It'd prefer it covered in my grime, which i'm sure it will. I'm not a brilliant babysitter of guitars.

Oh, the bass player in the punk band i'm in has used an Encore short scale bass for years. He swears by it, good player too.

Those are DiMarzio split humbucker type right? How do they compare to the standard P pickup? Always been interested.

Yeah it's a DiMarzio Split P, the standard pickup in that bass was crap. The Split P seems to be louder, fuller and more punchy, all of those words mean nothing though. I like it is a good pickup, it shits all over the old one.

I found my old Encore Strat neck in the coal shed last week, it's been sitting out there for 5 winters and I thought it'd be warped to hell...nope, it's in perfect condition. I was quite impressed.
