Gibson Midtown

Post by DanHeron »

Anyone tried one of these Gibson Midtown's? They might be new, I'm not sure, just spotted it on Guitar Village.

I think they look pretty cool. A bit smaller than a 335 style body by the looks of things. Cool huh.

If the the white plastic was swapped for black, it'd be awesome.

Looks quite nice though.

nah, the white is ace. needs white pickguard to complete the effect. and speed knorbs always suck. I've always thought a guitar like this would be cool though; 335 shape with cooler looking cutaways. always thought the 335 shape looked like some lumpy cartoonish rendering of a guitar.

Awwww, look: all the controls are huddled close to other bits of hardware for warmth.

God, I hate Gibson. Especially their marketing division.

Except for the knob placement I don't hate this.

I'm all up for smaller archtops but this doesn't really deliver for a number of reasons: colour scheme, knobs, headstock.

I think it's pretty cool. Agree the knobs and headstock look crap though.

I'd rather a 339. Apart from the Bigsby this thing looks pretty boring.

there are things about it that are cool. I never have liked that shape much though. sorry. the cutaway has to be one of the goofiest shapes of any of the well known vintage guitars.

This. I think it's pretty much a 339 apart from they've completely messed with the headstock shape. Seems like an utterly pointless design when they have something that's so similar already being made.

Gibson are a strange company. Some brilliant guitars though...

Unless those controls are both volumes, I'm not happy. I imagine that's an easy-ish fix though. I can dig it.

i think this one is essentially a solid body guitar with a wee bit of chambering, according to the specs.
