I was thinking about this the other day and I'm not sure I could actually pare my setup down to just two pedals (I started at one; no dice). Assuming all your other stuff is basically what you'd want, ie an excellent guitar, great amp (which might make it easier to not necessarily pick out a distortion at all) what two pedals would you take? And why?
if the amp has some good distortion, i would get a hazarai because of all the sounds i can get from it, and having a looper is nice to, and and behringer super fuzz or a foxx tone machine copy, just because i like having a massive distortion and then pushing it more with a octave fuzz
I can get great dirt out of my amp as is but I'll never get that wide range + velcro fuzz that is essential to my sound out of it.
I love reverb but I've found that a good op-amp style analog delay (echo) can be setup as a surrogate reverb, sometimes but never the other way around.
** Maybe a Dano Spring King with the delay mod...

I changed my mind, i would prefer a boss ps3 or whammy to a octave fuzz, i can still do octave stuff and this way i have more sounds available.
I guess i could also just get an m9, but i wasn't that impressed with the one i tried...
You Dirty Rat--I've come to appreciate its versatility the more I've tweaked it.
Nova Repeater--I use delay quite a bit and the fact that you can have modulation on top of any delay mode you choose is a huge plus. Almost chose the Magicstomp in place of the Repeater, but I have a rack unit that can cover that ground.
If I only get two I guess realistically it would be the DC Internet because of it's versatility from an angry boost to a full brutal attack of noise aaaannndd dunno, the Verbzilla/RV600. I really like reverb and they offer alot of options.

Thought about this for a while and my answer came as a bit of a surprise even to me!
Assuming that I can keep my guitar in tune in some way (have polytune) on my iPhone, then at the moment:
Now, I'm not allowing myself multieffects because my answer just becomes "M13 LOL", so... Foxx Tone Machine and Utility Perkolator. This took some boiling down, but the Foxx gives me kerrazy octave fuzz plus great girthy seventies fuzz, the Perk gives me a great boost, overdrive and distortion, plus it does batshit crazy things to the signal from the tonemachine. From a purely theoretical point of view, I'd go for a fuzz and a trem, but I'd use the trem on my vibrochamp in this setup.
If the gig is full PA, A/B box between Twin Reverb and Pro Jr, with The Twin super clean and Pro just breaking up. Everything else can be sorted with a big of volume and tone control tweaking. In fact this would be the idea set up for me.
