This GUY etched his social security number into his mando to protect it. Different era. He put it all over the thing. I wonder if that still his number, or if he is long dead and it's been recycled.

My Yamaha YC30 Combo Organ has a SSN etched crudely in all the metal pieces (latches, handle brackets). The thing is way too heavy and bulky to steal anyway, so I've always been secretly paranoid the dude who sold it to me on craigslist is gonna track me down and say I stole it from him

At the library where I work, if we come across old cards in the back of the book, we shred them, because they used to put down a person's name, address, phone and social security number whenever they'd check out a book!

now we just use barcodes, and also have all sortsa privacy policies partially in response to identity theft risks, and in response to Bush "anti-terrorism" policies.

Libraries were the breeding ground of all types of identity theft and identity fraud. They used to basically give you a library card on the honor system, and once you had it, it was treated as a legit ID by a lot of other services. Now libraries require a lot more information and proof before they issue you a library card.
