NBD: Squier Sonic series Bronco Bass

Post by Golden_Sonic »

Hello, I hope that everyone is fine. It's a long time since my last post as well as my last musical instrument purchase. First of all, pics:

It was a bad period and I didn't played for years for reasons. Recently, I decided to take back my guitars and treat myself with a new entry, I always wanted a short scale bass so I thought "this is the right time". My choice fell on the Squier Sonic series Bronco Bass in Tahitian Coral finish but, as you can see, the colour is completely different from what Fender/Squier advertise: instead of an orange pastel finish, the bass is a sort of Barbie pink/ '80s toy-like pink. The neck is wonderful, a velvet-like satin finish without any single sharp fret, maybe just a bit bright almost white for a maple neck/fretboard. What really impressed me is the pickup. I swapped the white cover with a black one and I consider to shield the pickguard and the electronic space as soon as possible because of some hum and ground noise but man, that strat single coil growls: it's fantastic and the sound can be changed just with the tone knob, from a well-rounded fat sound with the tone completely closed to a bright, rattling one but always well present and "bassy" (keep in mind that this is a guitar pickup single coil in a bass guitar so I expected to have a poor sound quality as many said in different posts, sites and forums).
For now, I'm really happy with it, not a big fan of pink but I think that I'll keep it as it is (besides the other choices are black with laurel fretboard or a boring arctic white finish with maple fretboard, if you don't consider the rare limited editions), maybe I'll put a racing stripe in competition Mustang style and change the knobs with some jazz bass/Mustang bass style. I really wanted a Squier Mustang bass but in 2024 the price for a new one is over-400€ where I live and I couldn't justify an expensive purchase with the limited amount of time that I have to play my instruments, we are humans and there are other necessities and not everyone plays guitar/bass for work. If you want a cheap Fender style short scale bass, you can't go wrong with the Bronco bass.

P.s. Does anyone know how to remove those knobs to put some Mustang style ones? There are no screws around them and I don't know how to remove them.

Sweet! Love the new Squier Sonic colors on the Broncos, don't know if I've seen this one yet!

As for the knobs, Squier has been known to sometimes use a bit of glue on the knobs, keep at it with pry tools, if there's no set screws they should come off with pressure.

Two teaspoons, one each side, slip the tips under the knob and push the handles down gently.

That, or wrap some string underneath the knob and pull up.

Or the same trick with two plectrums. Much less leverage, but are probably already in your pocket.

But You ordered the Orange one and got this pink one ?
I’m thinking of ordering the Orange one too but if it’s Pink, then I’d better go with the black or white one.
They are cheaper. 🙈

Idk if this is worth the post.
But I ordered mine. The same Coral (let’s see what tonality) color.
Coming in next week :—) can’t wait.

Everyone online is saying that the pups stink.. but when I listened etc “reviews” they sound really cool.

Some say You must change the strings on it, to make it more alive. Is that true ? Or You kept the original ones ?

Well, so, I got mine a month ago, it sounds very nice.
I’m not much of a bassist.
Been using around my “studio” and all is good.
Got my palm a bit shredded the day it arrived by the frets but sanded them down a bit and no probs.
Was setup well otherwise.

The pup & headstock pics
► Show Spoiler
The electronics sound fine (no buzzing or non working knobs)
Pickups are ok, hardware is ok.
For 170€ a very fine deal.

Maybe I should get the telecaster sonic.. but that’s another story then :D
